Bougainville Soccer Federation President, Justin Helele was interviewed by PNG Loop and said soccer is taking a foothold, but other codes needed to follow the same way.“We are now giving advice to ABG members and other interested stakeholders about the code which is rapidly expanding here right now.” Helele said.Helele who is responsible for taking the Bougainville soccer team to Zurich Switzerland, and also attended the Logo unveiling of the under 20 women’s world logo unveiling (to inspire to excel) in Port Moresby, is now a major player in tournament organisations.“The only national member who enquired for technical support was the Member for North Bougainville Louta Atoi. We ran a tournament in Buka at the Hutjena oval and then another one in Nissan Island, in North Bougainville,” Helele said. “The ABG member who approached us was the Member for Haku Robert Tulsa who purchased some equipment. He said.“We have already written and finalised a structure for soccer here on Bougainville and we want all other codes to follow. Our structure will be officially presented to the ABG parliament by the Member for Haku to the Bougainville Executive Council,” Helele said.Soccer on Bougainville has been a very popular sport before the crisis, and with the FIFA involvement it has now moved to an advanced stage.“We are selling soccer equipment’s here in Buka which are FIFA certified which you won’t find anywhere else,” Helele said.Picture: The recent soccer tournament sponsored by Lauta Atoi.
